No word yet...

On Monday, our social worker wrote that our agency might be assigning us to a different social worker in order to keep the process moving forward and that she would "hope to have a definite answer about this" on Tuesday after she spoke with the branch director about it. Well, Tuesday and Wednesday have now come and gone with no further update from her. Guess I'll touch base with her again tomorrow - I don't want to be too much of a pest, but I don't want to be forgotten either. ;-)

Of course, in the meantime we still have dossier paperwork to finish up. Among other tasks on our to-do list, that is!

Playing with the template...

Decided to try a different template, mostly because I wanted the timeline in the sidebar to have better format - I like the bullets and spacing rather than just a mass of text. And the green plant behind the title symbolizes the growth to our family, right? ;-)

We'll see how I feel about this after a few days of it. Feel free to comment.

Adoption Update - April 29

Hello again,

Ok, so I just posted an update that I wrote on a different online journal on April 19. Now, here's a bit more information.

Part of the paperwork we still need to finish for the dossier includes a psychological evaluation. Our agency recommended a doctor in Los Angeles who has actually adopted from Colombia as well and is willing to work with potential parents like us to provide the psych evaluation. Last week, we put together the initial information and mailed it off, so now that process has begun and we now wait to hear back from her. I believe there will be some written testing involved, plus some phone conversations - I so look forward to this piece being over!

When we didn't hear back from our social worker after a week, I sent an email inquiry - just wondering how things were coming... She wrote back and said that it's likely they will assign us different social worker in order to keep the process moving forward (I guess this gal is already overwhelmed since they are quite busy with about 80 families in the process, I believe). We should hear back today what they decided to do with us and who our social worker will be.

I leave for Latvia two weeks from today, so it would be wonderful to have this step completed before then. I'm not sure if that's possible, but we'll see. I'm very ready to be done with all this paperwork (although I know there's more to come to finalize everything, but that's later!).

So, that's where we're at for now. Next task: Clean the house!!! (For the social worker's "inspection" - yikes!!) ;-)

Adoption Update - April 19

Hello friends,

For those who might be reading this and didn't already know (and somehow didn't catch it from the title of the blog or the first post!), Jeff and I are in the process of adopting a couple of kids from Colombia! :-D We are hoping for a brother and sister around the ages of 7-10 years old. (Since we're a bit "older" ;-) we decided not to start with babies at this point!) We began the paperwork process at the beginning of October 2007. So, that's the backstory...

Yesterday (Fri., April 18), I'm pleased to report that I finally turned in the last of the documents needed for the home study portion of our paperwork!! YAY!! We still have a bit more paperwork for the dossier that goes to the agency in Colombia, but finishing the home study documents means we can move forward to meeting with the social worker and preparing for the kids we believe God has waiting just for us. We are so eager to meet them!!

So, the goal is to finish the rest of our dossier paperwork before I head to Latvia (for work) on May 13. Once all the paperwork and interviews are done, then we just wait...and wait...and wait. ;-) Of course, there's also the fun tasks of getting their rooms ready, prepping the house, learning about home-schooling (yep, that's the plan...at least for the first year?), figuring out how I'm going to work from home... Hmm. Indeed, there are still a few things to get done! But it will be sooooo worth it, of course.

Ok, so that's the update for now. I'll write again when we know more. :-D
